I visited New Orleans, Louisiana (NOLA) last week for business. I was able to steal a few hours to walk around the French Quarter, Jackson Square and the Riverfront.
This was the 3rd time that I have visited NOLA and I still have not been able to find time to visit the Garden District (maybe next time). I, of course, enjoyed a Café au lait and Beignets from Cafe Du Monde, It was as good as I remember from previous trips. I was unable to get to the Central Grocery for their muffuletta sandwich on this trip as “work got in the way”
. I avoided Bourbon Street this trip. This avoidance was due to either the fact that I am getting older or the “been there, done that” syndrome — I would like to believe it is the latter.
The French Quarter is a great place to people watch. You will see the homeless and the wealthy, the young and old, the sober and the inebriated, the native and the tourist and, well, you get the idea. One of the people I watched was a gentleman who was drawing portraits in the French Market. I watched and photographed him for some time and was also able to capture a woman that appeared to be his wife based on their chatter. I found his expressions and the lines on his face interesting. He seemed to really enjoy what he was doing and I tried to capture his enthusiasm, confidence and his years in the images.
Below are some of these images. Just click to view and navigate.

I went to NOLA for the first time in March, for Mardi Gras. It really is an amazing place. I’d like to go back and actually bring my camera. The Garden District is filled with huge houses, old and new. Plenty of photo ops everywhere.
Great photos. I liked the ones of the hands best. Thanks, Pop
