I spent Saturday afternoon walking around the Adams Morgan neighborhood in Washington, DC as part of a photosafari with a focus on “The Abstract”. This safari was my second one sponsored by Washington Photo Safari™ organization. Our host for the day was the organization’s founder E.David Lauria.
Abstract images force one to think in a different manner. To not necessarily see the whole scene but parts of a scene — patterns, textures, motion. It really goes against our (at least mine) analytical and left brain and forces us (me) to use our right brain — the less analytic and more aesthetic/creative.
I have always enjoyed capturing images that tend to be abstract while identifying the unseen within an object that we pass by everyday during our busy lives. These are my favorite images to capture. Whether a sewer cover, a woven basket, graffiti or drying paint these very common objects can be very beautiful in the abstract.
Below is a slideshow of a series of the images I captured around Adams Morgan. You can use the navigation below the image to pause or view the next/previous image or just click on an image to see the next image.
